The candidate should be a strong communicator, must be approachable and
able to demonstrate the ability to lead an animation team and work closely with a multi-faceted game team of programmers, artists and designers. The candidate must have excellent knowledge of the principles of animation and also share the passion and enthusiasm to bring these skills to a 3D game environment. The candidate should have the ability to produce high quality animation using hand keyed animation techniques and ensure animation tasks are carried out on time and in the correct style. Character rigging skills are also an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of animators in completing project deliverables
- Define best practice in conjunction with Art Director
- Collaborate with the Art Director to help set the quality bar for animation asset creation
- Supervise regular animation team review meetings
- Maintain a positive outlook on the project, even in difficult circumstances and project this to your team
- Inspire, motivate, and mentor other animators in best practices, processes, and procedures pertaining to production
- Implement animations into the game engine using in house tools
- Work with Programming and Design departments to ensure animations properly fit the gameplay requirements
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of classic animation principals and fundamentals (Squash & stretch, staging, timing and motion, anticipation, exaggeration, follow through, arcs & appeal)
- Ability to create realistic and stylised character animation
- Understanding and ability to communicate the principals of body movement, and a critical eye when appraising artwork
- Understanding of character pipeline from modeling, rigging and skinning through to animation production and final implementation ingame
- Understands camera principles and cinematic processes
- Ability to learn fast, take initiative with assigned tasks and follow through creative and technical troubleshooting
