Position Description The Lead Level Designer is a senior level designer whose main responsibility is to manage the level design team and guide them in all aspects of producing a game level. They lead by example and act as mentor and coach to the level design staff. They have strong influence over all design decisions of the level design team.
Responsibilities:
• Take charge of a team of Level Designers. Coach them in the art of creating truly engaging levels, from conception and design to implementation and polish.
• Work closely with the other Team Leads and Technical Leads to execute on the overall vision for the levels.
• Actively promote tight collaboration between the Level Design and Game Design groups, including regular reviews of the state of the game.
• Acquire and propagate necessary information to the level design staff, including both design elements and technical procedures.
• Work within the constraints of the existing game systems, content pipelines, performance and memory budgets, and visual requirements.
• Identify and prioritize problems and bottlenecks in the level design workflow, and proactively help to find solutions.
• Coordinate focus tests.
Requirements:
• 5+ years of game production experience in Level Design
• 3+ shipped titles, at least one of which was in a leadership role
• Strong level design skills, and the ability to clearly communicate their vision to others
• Ability to collaborate with creative and technical staff in a diplomatic manner
• Excellent leadership qualities in order to effectively lead a team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong problem identification and solving skills
• Passion for video games
• Willing to relocate to Montreal, Canada for full-time employment. Must be able to work in Canada to apply
