My client currently has over 500,000 paying subscribers and over 3 million active free players and is continuing to increase this number in order to become a significant operator in all the major online gaming markets worldwide.
In order to develop its portfolio, the company requires a Team Lead to head up the new business area of Web Java Games as part of it’s games umbrella. Using our own technologies which have been developed in house, we are looking to begin with web based Java Games and then using this to build a presence in the market and a dedicated audience base so as to be able to extend into the mobile games arena.
This person will lead the development of the business with guidance and support from Senior Management, with the overall view to developing a successful and profitable concern.
Ideal Candidate
This role is ideal for a games enthusiast who is articulate and energetic and who wishes to immerse themselves into the commercial dynamics of a successful and rapidly growing Games Company. Using my client’s resources and support, you will have the opportunity to help mould the development of the business unit from the outset and to significantly impact on its success.
It is likely that you come from an entrepreneurial background, possibly in the mobile games industry and are looking to take a step up into management, or alternatively you are passionate graduate with a good commercial instinct who is looking for an opportunity to make their mark in the Games industry. With extensive experience in creating Java Games in either a professional or recreational environment, you will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong organisation skills and proven ability to multi-task and to co-ordinate a variety of projects according to deadlines.
Line Manager
The position reports to the Head of Games Development and has significant exposure to the management and team. It will also head up a small team initially, with a view to building the team to four in the first quarter of activity.
Key Responsibility Areas
The main purpose of the role will be to steer the development of a successful and profitable Java games business unit. Working closely with the Head of Games Development, you will be involved in all areas of its development including designing of Java games, attracting and retaining new audiences and planning the growth and direction of the area itself.
Game Design (50%)
• Design (including Level Design) of entertaining and addictive Java games suitable for ultimate transition into the mobile games market;
• Managing the games development cycle in its entirety, working closely with the graphics and QA teams to deliver top quality products.
Team Leadership (30%)
Team leadership responsibility for a small team, building initially to four people, tasks will include:
• Assisting with the interview & selection of candidates
• Regular staff reviews
• Managing team’s workload within the constraints of project deadlines
Business Development (20%)
• Project management of overall growth of the business area, identifying potential areas for development;
• Scheduling of regular releases of new Java games;
• Securing the attraction and retention of new audiences through a variety of methods
